At Sheet Metal JATC San Diego, our commitment to delivering excellent training and education goes beyond what our apprenticeship program offers. We provide a wide variety of classes and resources tailored to enhance your technical skills and understanding, from vital First Aid/CPR instruction, Welding, and Revit applications to multiple comprehensive OSHA training classes. Most classes are offered in the evenings and on Saturdays. These courses are available to members of Local 206 who are in good standing, offering valuable opportunities for growth and development. | REVIT | 7/2/2024 - 11/21/2024 | T & TH | 4:30 PM -7:30 PM | Due to the fact that the sheet metal industry has started using Revit instead of AutoCAD as the software to detail mechanical projects the AutoCAD /Fabrication class has merged with the Revit class. With major focus on Revit vs. AutoCAD this course is designed as an introduction on how to use the latest Autodesk Revit MEP/fabrication software. This course will cover exporting files, importing to CAD MEP, exporting from AutoCAD to Revit system, Revit concepts, design workflow, part layout, loading databases, and reviewing of project models to name a few. The course is also designed to teach the necessary skills and procedures on how to operate the Revit software as a drafting tool for the sheet metal/HVAC Industry. This focus will be on the fundamental commands that will enable the student to successfully draw 3D objects from the introduction through advanced levels. It is designed to teach the technical skills required to become a detailer in the sheet metal industry. With that in mind, we will also cover researching contract documents, RFI’s, equipment cut sheets, submittals. This course is 24 weeks in duration and a total of 144 hours of training. | D. | FORKLIFT TRAINING CLASS | 4/18/2024 | THURSDAY | 5:00 PM -7:00 PM | This class will prepare each participant for a forklift license certification through classroom lecture and theory. The classroom portion never expires once completed. There are two things needed to obtain a forklift license certification. First, each member must have record of completing the classroom portion from the JATC. Second, each member must pass the practical portion (driving) at their place of employment on each site-specific lift. For example, if you were trained on a forklift with one employer and then went to work with another employer who had a similar but different forklift, you ARE NOT certified on the site-specific forklift. Both you and your employer are not in OSHA compliance and are subject to fines. You must be trained on each make and model that you are operating. Forklift certifications need to be renewed every three years. If you are currently certified on a forklift with your employer and that forklift, make and model has not changed then you simply just need to renew your forklift certification card through the JATC. Finishing enhances the metal’s look and durability through methods like polishing and linear sanding. Polishing and finishing stainless steel is done in industrial, kitchen equipment, and in architectural sheet metal work.
