About Sheet Metal JATC San Diego

Our
Mission

To empower the dedicated individuals in the Sheet Metal Industry by equipping them with the skills and knowledge required to excel in our field at the highest level of productivity. As a Labor/Management/Training cooperative, our JATC is committed to offering students cutting-edge courses that encompass the latest technologies, materials, and essential skills, aligning with our shared goals.

The Sheet Metal Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee (JATC) San Diego stands as a premier non-profit union training center. Nestled in the heart of San Diego, CA, our state-of-the-art campus provides unparalleled training for the Sheet Metal Industry. Apprentices reside and work in San Diego and Imperial Counties. Our state-certified, 5-year training program includes 8,000 hours of on-the-job training and 960 hours of classroom and lab instruction. Our dedicated team comprises two full-time administrators, two full-time and two part-time apprentice instructors, and five part-time upgrade class instructors. Collectively, our team boasts nearly 235 years of industry experience.

Our union sheet metal apprenticeship has been in existence for more than 100 years. The modern apprenticeship training familiar to us today has been in effect since 1973. At any given time, we have roughly 155 apprentices enrolled in our robust program.  Each year, we “turn out” or graduate an average of 35 highly trained apprentices who earn their official journey card and become journey-level workers.

Sheet Metal JATC San Diego collaborates with two organizations, SMART Local 206 and SMACNA San Diego.  SMART consists of union members. All apprentices join Local 206. SMACNA San Diego represents contractors who employ our apprentices and journey workers.
